Helping Students in Need of Academic Support

The Ed. Foundation Support Center

Created in 2004, The Ed. Foundation Support Center provides a weekly after-school program for 40+ third graders who need academic support. Elementary school teachers recommend students to participate in the program, which features extra help, guidance, and support in reading, writing, math, and language skills.

The intergenerational volunteer staff is comprised of retired Port Washington educators, talented Port residents, and current high school students who lead the program, sharing the joys of learning with the children.

The Ed. Foundation

The Center focuses on improving literacy and math skills through individualized attention and a variety of creative enrichment activities including music, art, problem-solving, homework help, and writing exercises. Visits from a variety of distinguished visitors round out the experience and help the students achieve success.

The high school volunteers benefit from working with the young students, gaining invaluable teaching experience and the satisfaction of knowing they can make a difference in someone’s life. The Ed. Foundation Support Center is funded by community-based private and public organizations.
